Thangka is an intricate painting on silk or cloth usually depicting a Buddhist deity, scene or mandala. They are not ordinary paintings as they are painted with great precision by highly experienced and skilled thangka painters over a period of months or years. Thangka serve as important teaching tools depicting the life of the Buddha, used during a ritual or ceremony and are often used as mediums through which one can offer prayers or make requests. This religious art is used as a meditation tool to help bring one further down the path of enlightenment. The practitioner uses the thangka image as a guide to create more awareness for themselves by visualizing themselves as being that deity, thereby internalizing the Buddha qualities and hence bringing them close to their own Buddha nature or their own true nature! Each thangka painting is unique and so beautifully painted that it is not just used as an adornment for your wall but also purifies the environment of the place where its placed…..a must have for everyone…
